Studio Kusi
Boutique ceramics studio in Mount Pleasant, small-group classes with an emphasis on creative exploration.
Editor's note
Studio Kusi integrates ceramics programming with mutual-aid fundraising efforts. There are two different types of sessions here: introductory workshops designed for complete beginners, and open studio sessions for people with existing ceramics experience. If you have never touched a wheel before, look specifically for workshops described as introductory or try-it, open studio sessions are not teaching environments.
New to this?
This studio welcomes beginners. No prior experience required.
What to expect your first visit
- Sign up online in advance for a specific workshop, drop-in availability is not clearly stated
- If you have no prior wheel experience, look specifically for beginner or 'try it' workshops; most regular programming assumes some prior experience
- Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty
- The studio's focus is community production and mutual aid fundraising rather than ongoing structured curriculum
Best for
Adults interested in ceramics who want an affordable one-off wheel experience, or who have some experience and prefer a community-driven open-studio environment.
What to expect
Introductory workshops typically offer a brief introduction to wheel throwing with hands-on instruction and time to make a small number of pieces. Regular programming centers on open studio sessions and mutual aid production days where participants work more independently, with less structured teaching.
Grassroots and community-oriented. The focus on raising funds through pottery gives it a collaborative, purposeful atmosphere distinct from conventional ceramics schools.
What to bring
Clothes you can get muddy.
