Capitol Hill Arts Workshop is one of the few DC organizations that offers adult classes across multiple disciplines, ceramics, drawing, painting, music, and theater, under one roof, at community pricing. The Eastern Market location makes it one of the more walkable options in the city.

What to expect your first visit
- Eastern Market Metro (Blue/Orange/Silver Line) is two blocks north, the workshop is at 545 7th St SE at the corner of G Street
- Registration opens through chaw.org at the start of each term, ceramics sessions fill quickly
- The building also has a gallery, black box theater, and darkroom, worth a look when you arrive
- Class sizes are small, which means the instructor can spend real time with each student

What to expect
Visual arts classes run as multi-week sessions organized around a specific medium or technique. The ceramics studio has wheels and a kiln on-site. Class sizes tend to be small and instruction is hands-on. The building is a working community arts facility, not a commercial studio, the atmosphere reflects that.
Neighborhood-scale and unhurried. CHAW has the regulars-and-newcomers mix of a community arts center, people tend to come back season after season, which creates a stable, low-pressure atmosphere for beginners.
